Ashley Loves Gus [Engagement Shoot]

So.  I’ve tried repeatedly to write an intro that is worthy of Ashley.  Obviously I repeatedly failed because you’re reading this lame one instead of something fabulous – about how sweet and pretty and IN LOVE she is. I can’t remember exactly when this blog was born or when Twitter became a daily obsession but I do know that Ashley was one of my very first bride followers – she is awesome and I am lucky.

And about the love story of Ashley and her soon-to-be-husband Gus? I won’t even try that one – nobody could tell it better than the bride.  Sit back and enjoy the romance, both in words and in the lovely engagement photos taken by Ardent Photography.

“I’m just home, all blue-plaid peacoat & black boots with the chill of outside still caught on them. It’s a Monday—November 30th, 2009—and the air is electric cold.”

Gus tells Ashley how he ran into an old teacher of theirs from junior high today, who happens to have some old car parts to spare.  The perfect set up… Do you want to go to the junior high with me to say hi and look through them?

” And this is how we found ourselves reflected in the windows on either side of the front doors—still with the same worn bronze handles, the same cherry-red paint—to the place where we began.”

“[We should go to the woodshop really quick, just to see what it looks like,] he suggests… The first time we met, it was in the room next door to the woodshop—Mr. McLeod’s tech ed class, with the yellow-dusted green chalkboard along one wall, the intimidating drafting board and miniature islands of cubes scattered throughout.”

“Gus untying my shoes became a trademark of the very early ‘us’—leading up to the day he stopped post-untie, bent on his knee in front of me (my un-laced Nike still in hand), and asked, [Would you go out with me?]”

“I replied, ‘What happens if I say yes? & without missing a beat—as though we’d rehearsed it a thousand times—he answered, [Then I’ll love you forever.]”
“Our circle completed, we headed back toward the door, ostensibly to meet up with our old shop teacher & the promised car pieces—but, passing the thick wood-topped table that had served as the backdrop to our beginning, my love stopped to take down a metal stool from the table. Setting it on the floor, he simply looked at me, smile lit from within.”

“Settling atop it, I jokingly offered, “Awww, should I untie my shoe?“—and my foot—taking his playful expression to mean that he was planning to re-enact the earliest event in the Book of Us.

Instead—as he knelt onto the floor in front of me,  pulled a laquered red box from his right coat pocket and gently opened it to reveal the diamond ring inside—he wrote the very first words to our newest chapter.

[No; I just want you to spend forever with me.]”

“…I couldn’t find a way to relocate my jaw from its new residence in my lap. I couldn’t speak. I registered the fact that, oh my god, Gus is on one knee in front of me & he’s holding a ring & he wants me to marry him.

Oh my god. OH. My god. OHMYgod. OHMYGOD. Oh. My. GOD.
Once I’d done this for about a full minute, my love—oh, that patient, patient boy, still poised on one knee, box in hand, amused gleam in his eyes—gently prompted me: [So… are you going to say yes?]

And then I said yes.”

Aren’t they the cutest, happiest couple you’ve ever seen?! I can’t wait to see their wedding pictures – and thankfully I won’t have to wait long. Ashley and Gus are tying the knot on 10/10/10, just four days after celebrating their 11th anniversary together. {Everybody say “Awwww!”}  Their sure-to-be awesome damask-splashed wedding will be held in a historic theater in their hometown! Again – Can. Not. Wait. To. See!

You can find Ashley and Ardent Photography on Twitter – let them know you loved their shoot!
