Elegant Decay ~ Lucky No. 13!

From the ‘creators’ of Elegant Decay:

We’re  Aleah + Nick Valley of Valley & Co. and we’re so excited to partner with some of our most favorite blogosphere friends for this Blog Around the World: Elegant Decay post! Today you’re invited to a worldwide scavenger hunt on these awesome blogs where you’ll find snippets of our Elegant Decay photo shoot, designed to show off the after effects of a celebration: fun!

We all spend so long putting together amazing designs and table scapes for our couples, and this shows off the end result {and the most important element}: enjoyment. We hope you enjoy this – thank you to all of our friends for participating and be sure to visit these other fabulous blogs for more photos, ideas, tips, and fun!

Welcome to picture #13! By now you’ve probably figured out that lots of blogs are participating in a progressive photo reveal, and I am so honored to be in the mix!  I am also watching this unfold with you – the photo above is the only one I’ve seen as of writing this post. Isn’t it fun?! {In case you’ve missed any of the first 12 shots, see the list below to catch up on the corresponding blog}

This table looks how I feel after a wedding, and ‘Elegant Decay’ could not be a more fitting title.  I was doing weddings long before I was doing weddings, starting at just 15.  Somehow I was always roped into ‘helping’ which always lead to…what should I call it?…oh yeah, “doing almost everything”! 🙂 Hey, at least I’m getting paid now.

I have decorated cakes when the florist got her times mixed up… directed a catering staff who was brand new… stacked haybales when the reception site threatened to flood… handed out programs, fired up candles, taken pictures when the photographer was smoking, figured out why an ‘on site’ toilet trailer stopped flushing, and picked flies out of the frosting (and so, so, so much more).  The best part? I did it while the newlyweds were having FUN! So here’s a little bit of advice from me to you:

~Trust yourself by trusting the vendors you’ve hired, and let them do their jobs! You’ve planned the best you can and hired people to carry out your vision – let it happen.  On your wedding day be a bride; that should be your only focus.

~Let the little things roll off your back.  Your centerpieces have 6 roses instead of 7? The table numbers are centered instead of slightly off to the right side? Let it go! Nobody knows it’s ‘wrong’ but you! Your guests will only see a beautiful reception with two very lucky, in love, and newly married people…. Success!

~You know that saying ” Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body…. But rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -WOW !!!! What a ride!”  Well, you should sort of apply that to your wedding.  You spent a lot of money. You married the love of your life.  All your close friends and family are here to celebrate. HAVE FUN – eat the cake, drink the wine, laugh as loud as you can, and dance until the floor can hardly take one more spin… make a memory.

And when you prance off into the sunset towards your honeymoon, I will be left behind with this table – neither of us looking quite as put-together as we did 10 hours ago – but both of us happy to have contributed to the day that began your marriage.

  13. Great post + pic. I couldn’t agree more – let the little things go. Our florist was late, but what would my freaking out have done? She arrived and the flowers were gorgeous. Our cake was ivory instead of mint green. Did it taste and look amazing still? You bet. Did either of these little things dampen the day? Not at all. Being calm and taking it all in is the best advice! It goes by so fast! Enjoy every last second of it.
