Love It or Hate It – Celebrity Edition

After today’s love/hate session with shoes, I decided to keep going.  Here, for your viewing pleasure from my newly ripped apart OK! magazine, is Hilary Duff’s wedding.  The good, the bad, and the ugly – not in that order.  If you thought her hair was the only talk topic you were way wrong…. keep reading…..

Let’s start with the hair, since I already brought it up.  I guess it’s not that bad but it’s like a size 6 girl trying to fit into a size 2 and creating muffin-top: There were much better options for her that would have taken her wedding day look from so-so to stunning. Am I right?

It’s just so… distracting.  And a little messy.  Her bouquet is pretty, though.  What do you think of her hair?

Now on to the truly disturbing details.

Cake – not frosted!! She said she wanted a “vintage-homemade” look. Well, she got it. Another word I might also use is “unfinished”.  Would you do something like this for your wedding?

Rings – Hers is platinum, his is yellow gold.  There is no rule that says your rings have to match, but that’s what *I* like.  What do you think?

And here is the best part epic fail, my friends.  Whether you have a $5,000 budget or a $5 million budget PROOF READ all printed materials!

I even Googled “complients” before I posted this, to make sure it wasn’t a different language or something. Nope, it’s a big fat wedding typo! Oops.

Now that I got that out of my system we can move on to the good stuff!

Dress – Vera Wang

Bridesmaid dress – also Vera Wang

Linens – I just like them. (Yes, there’s “complients” again! Yikes.)

So what did you love and hate – or just feel lukewarm – about this celebrity wedding?

This was all in good fun.  While I might not have liked some of the things this bride chose for her wedding, it doesn’t matter one bit. As long as the newlyweds were happy with how it turned out then nothing else matters.  They seem like a lovely couple and I wish them a lifetime of wedded bliss.

    • Tell me how you really feel, Peachy. :p

  2. Compliments??? Really? Really? What’s up with the body language in that photo. Her entire torso is avoiding him. The cake looks OK but she nixed frosting to have a warm cozy feel that the wedding had? What warm cozy feel? The candles are fake!!!! Foul!!!

    • I feel like I should cross out the “Love it” portion of this blog title! LOL. Yes, and I swear to goodness I actually Googled “complient” to make sure it wasn’t something I didn’t know about. Just in case!

      August 24, 2010 at 9:42 PM

    • I’m ignoring that “body language” because Hil.D’s dress looks uber-constricting…I’m thinking it’s affecting her stance just a tad. Poor thing might be secretly miserable.

Or maybe she just has to pee?

      August 25, 2010 at 11:10 AM

      • Yeah I haven’t even commented on that. Sometimes a weird pic gets taken, and then widely distributed in magazines. I HATE those “body language experts” who always say stars are breaking up b/c their arms are crossed or they’re facing away from each other. Hello. If they ever took a random snapshot of my life they would think me and Hubs shoulda been divorced before we were even married!

That dress DOES look really uncomfortable, no matter how much I love Vera.

  3. My thoughts (since you asked…)

I only go out in public with my hair like that if I’m going to the gym. But it does look good on Hil in *some* pictures. SOME. (Yes, I call her Hil.)

Yes, the cake appears unfinished, but I also think the un-fondanted look makes it look extremely delicious. I could go either way with it.

As for the typo… OH MY GOD. Tell me OK Mag noticed it and addressed it, right? Right????

Agree with Naomi, is she afraid she’s going to catch something from her husband?

Also, sidenote, I find cigars to be a tacky wedding favor. Not everyone smokes, Hil, c’mon now.

    • Yes I asked and I lurrrrve your thoughts!
-I agree her hair is not *that* bad. It just could’ve been soooo much better.
      – I’m actually torn on the cake. My first reaction is “ewwww!” but it is kind of unique, and people ALWAYS complain about the taste of the frosting on wedding cakes.
      – To be completely honest….. I have not read the article yet. But I bet they don’t address it. I wonder if Hil even noticed. That printer should be mortified, to put it lightly.

That cake is just awful and she looks like she was obligated to take her cousin to the prom and pose for pics in that picture. The hair was an ok idea in theory and would have complinented her face well had it been better executed.

I’m in awe of that bling though – her’s is gorgeous. His is adequate at best but that probably doesn’t bother her considering the obligated-cousin thing.

Still, that’s a BIG rock for someone who isn’t a rapper or married to one. Wow.

    • DJ will you marry me? I promise we can have a frosted cake.

  5. DJ

Baby I’ll even make sure our rings match. xox.

  6. Complients? And this was a Mindy Weiss wedding? Shocking! The bouquet was pretty… Everything else seemed like a mish-mash of styles.

    August 24, 2010 at 11:04 PM

    • Hilary mentioned in the article (that I’ve still only just skimmed) that she’s only been to one wedding in her life so she didn’t know what she was doing. Thank you, Captain Obvious! But still, you would think the planners and other vendors would hold her hand better….that’s their job, whether you are a celebrity/millionaire or not.

To each his own on the wedding details. I’m sure she felt it fit her and her hubby and no bride likes to hear her wedding mocked. (I’ve felt that before, it hurts.) But typo’s are unacceptable for anything I’m paying for.

Also, where’s the wedding band? That’s what a wedding is about, right? The wedding ring. That eternal band that says you’re together for real. I want to see that. Not just the GIANT engagement ring. Am I right?

    August 24, 2010 at 11:09 PM

    • I agree, that’s why I mentioned that it was all in good fun. At the end of the day their marriage is what’s important. I only feel free to make such comments on celebrities, b/c they publish their pics for people to see and comment on (and they make $$ on it!)

Hilary’s wedding ‘band’ was 2 diamond eternity bands, I’m guessing to flank her engagement ring.

I agree 100% with everything you said.

Hair- Stylist fired. I don’t even think it is okay. To me, it is horrible.

Cake- Seriously? I have never seen a handmade cake that lacked frosting. Ever. I am game with no fondant but a good layer of butter cream is always necessary.

The rings should absolutely match or not be photographed together. It looks like they ran out of budget when it came to his.

The sister picture screams cheesy and is awkward. Not to mention the picture of the couple which reminds me of a bad high school dance. The only thing it lacks is a tragic corsage.

I don’t even want to talk about the misspelled favors. Well, actually I do. WHY would they publish multiple pictures of them?!

I’m disappointed by Hilary. Big time.

    August 24, 2010 at 11:16 PM

    • Just goes to show that money can’t buy everything…. I hope at the very least Hilary and Mike were happy with everything. Maybe she didn’t even notice the favor tags! Oy.

Oh, and the picture with her sister! Doesn’t Hilary look like she’s looking up at her hair, instead of AT her sister? I feel like she would’ve done better hiring some of the amazing people I know on Twitter.

      August 24, 2010 at 11:27 PM

  9. Looking at it again on a computer and not a blackberry screen…wow. Hate. So much hate. She just looks…a little scary. Everything is so very, very awkward. It’s like “I don’t know what I want so…”

    August 24, 2010 at 11:33 PM

    • I don’t think she did know what she wanted. You hit the nail on the head.

      August 24, 2010 at 11:34 PM

  10. I kind of feel bad for her BUT as long as she liked it then that is all that matters! …..Her hair is pretty awful though. lol

    August 25, 2010 at 12:13 AM

    • Girl, at the end of the day Hil is going home with a big paycheck, a rich hubby, a huge diamond, and a wedding (I’m assuming) she was happy with. She’s not the one we need to feel sorry for, lol. But yeah the hair was bad.

  12. Stumbled upon your web site via live search the other day and absolutely enjoy it. Keep up this fantastic work.

  13. HOW DO YOU MISSPELL COMPLIMENTS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY WHEN YOU ARE HILARY FREAKING DUFF? Okay. Sorry. Felt good to yell. And omg. Her hair? It looks like a home for a family of small animals. Ew. I agree with you 100% on that. She has gorgeous hair, why make it look ratty instead of silky and put together? One bad decision and her entire look is thrown off. Also, the cake looks unfinished. I adore Fantasy Frostings and think they do beautiful work, but that cake doesn’t look good. You don’t need to forgo frosting to have the cake look homemade. I make cakes all the time and um…they always have frosting.

    🙂

  15. So….not FAB! I don’t blame Hilary for her wedding detail mishaps though. This particular planner is hired by clients to manage the details and they just go along for the ride. This is why she gets the big bucks. So, if you are the planner/ logistics and details manager and a wedding like this one is published, it’s really telling. ’nuff said. I’m actually saddened by this post… Just goes to show that talent or skills paired with a famous name do not go hand in hand. Yes, I said it…someone had to.

srsly why do u guys hate shes goegous and her wedding was phenomenal!!!!! so get a life!

    January 21, 2011 at 6:43 PM

    • VMB – if you read the entire post you’ll see that I commented on both what I deemed to be the bad AND good. 🙂 And with all due respect, the mistake on her favors is what was phenomenal, considering the amount of money spent on the event and her celebrity planner.

Also, please be respectful to other commenters. They are entitled to their opinion as you are entitled to yours, without being told to “get a life”.
