If you keep up with this blog on a semi-regular basis then you are well aware that my fashion obsession pretty closely rivals my wedding obsession.  In addition to centerpieces, lighting, and flowers, I also spend a lot of time swooning over gowns, shoes, and jewelry.  Sometimes the styling is just so right I have to share it with anyone who will take a look!

This is one of those times.

More often than not, bridesmaids are put in colorful frocks and then subdued shoes and jewelry. This look {above} does the opposite and it’s fantastic! The neutral dresses have gorgeous detail, and pops of pink tie the whole outfit into the wedding palette. Do you love it?!

I was inspired to put together a couple of looks with a beige core and colorful accessories:

Coral is my favorite color for this spring!

Wedding Outfitters

MOST of you probably already know that the Urban Outfitters  company (also operating Free People and Anthropologie) will debut a wedding line this coming Monday named BHLDN {pronounced “beholden”}. Well the world wide webz is all atwitter as sneak peeks were revealed today! And let me tell you, these were very generous “sneaks”! I can only imagine what is left to share with us on Valentine’s Day.

You’re probably seeing them everywhere, so I’m going to skip the wedding dresses. Instead, I’ve picked a few of my favorite bridesmaids dresses, shoes, and accessories.

***

Do you have any favorites yet? The wedding gowns will run between $1000 and $4000 so if that’s way out of your budget….stick to loving the accessories! (like me!)

From Ordinary to Extraordinary

 Last week we talked about the dreaded (but fabulous!) money pit that is Etsy… did you buy anything this week?  In my daily surfing I found another batch of great “every day” things you could use for your wedding!  And not to take sales away from the artist, but a couple of these have DIY-potential if you have more time than money.

Shaker Lights ~ I think these would be great for ceremony and/or reception decor depending on your theme and over-all wedding feel:

~~~
Annie Clutch ~ While this isn’t billed as a ‘wedding purse’, it certainly could be! Champagne and ivory goes with just about everything, plus it has a Something Blue interior.
~~~

3D Paper Heart Garland ~ I don’t think I need to tell you what to do with this. 🙂

~~~
Here’s a bunch of great stuff from La Pomme ~ The plush apples can be customized with names, so I think they would make wonderful ‘escort cards’ and double as favors. Maybe even use them for table names or identifiers on a fruit-themed dessert table!
Below that is some of the vintage (from the 1920’s!) sheet music they sell…perfect for backing your programs or menus, using as general decor, or…lots of stuff – turn on your imagination!
~~~

Soooo…what’s on your Etsy shopping list this week?

A Fab New Year’s Eve

If I could be anywhere, doing anything, wearing anything I wanted tonight….

{Click pic for info on the pieces – dress, coat, shoes, ring, etc.}

A quick flight to Chicago….casual dressy digs in a sweater dress with killer heels and accessories…a movie….sushi downtown…late night drinks at Hugo’s.  *Bliss*

Happy NEW Year!

Christmas Spirits

Spirits, people! As in alcohol.  You’d probably be suprised to learn that I don’t drink very often given how I can gush over a good cocktail recipe, but it’s true.  Diet Coke is usually my beverage of choice! But when it comes to the holidays I think I could probably  will indulge in one of these 😉 :

Candy Cane

Christmas Sour

Poinsettia

Southern Nog

Lavandah

~~~~~~~~
See all of these recipes (and more!) HERE
Now…finish up work, finish up your shopping and rush home to make/drink/enjoy one of these!
Bottles of Light
This is such a beautiful piece of decor, and it’s a DIY project!  There are several steps and it may seem intimidating (it’s not as bad as it might sounds) but the result is very worth the effort!
This would be a stunning way to decorate a plain-Jane reception venue or your home during the holidays.  It’s also useful year round – removing the snowflake ornament makes it instantly ready to light up your backyard during a summer barbecue or light the path for Trick-or-Treaters!
{See the full tutorial on Design Mom}
Present-able Pairs from Anthropologie
~~~ Pssst….did you skip us over the weekend? See what you missed, HERE ~~~

Anthropologie was kind enough to pair up some cute stuff from their store to make your last-minute holiday shopping (’cause that’s what it is at this point) much easier. And if you are a winter bride keep these in mind as gifts for your ‘maids and other special ladies!

{Perfume and makeup bag/evening bag combo}

{Beautifully wrapped bar of soap and matching dish}

{Fresh herbs, and a pot where they can grow}

{My fave! Silky bubble bath + citrus scented, mercury glass candle}

~~~~~
Which combo is your favorite? And how are you doing on holiday shopping? For the sake of your own sanity, I hope you’re closer to being finished than I am!
Cozy Sunday ~ A Twist on Hot Chocolate
Straight from Chicago! The chefs at the Park Grill have whipped up a Curry White Hot Chocolate ~
“Garam masala, cardamom, white chocolate, and coconut milk, topped with a Malibu Coconut Rum marshmallow, whipped cream, and toasted coconut”
I bet it tastes perfect after a lap or two around the ice skating rink out front of the restaurant! If you’re in Chicago right now – 1. I’m jealous and 2. Go get some (and then tell me how it is).
Spotted! ~Nesting~
{Retail Spotting!}
 Weddings are sort of like the fashion world – designers/bloggers/inspirators need to think 6 months out, or more!  I can post holiday inspiration until I’m blue in the face (and will) but the fact of the matter is that most of the betrothed reading right now are Spring or Summer brides.  This little bit of retail perfection is for them!
~ Bird Nest Place Card/Menu Holders ~
Do you love them or do you love them?  If you’re not a Spring bride – or bride at all – don’t be jealous; these cute little nests are sold in sets of 4 so you could also use them for Easter dinner or other small gatherings! These may have made their way on to my Wish List…
Also – what do you think of the snow?! I love it but if you find it distracting please let me know.
Double also – I want to send my blog friends a Christmas card! Want one? Send me your mailing address at Nicole@NicheWhite.com! I promise not to SPAM you or prank send 200 pizzas, or herpes pamphlets. {Girls in my dorm did that! Not to me, though}
Have a fantastic weekend everyone! I will be working on holiday decorations, cards, my TWIPS gift (it’s a Twitter thing), and hopefully visiting my mom at home. 🙂
‘Tis the {Engagement} Season!
It’s Tuesday and the first post of the week is just going up…SOOOORRY! I guess I don’t come back from long weekends as well as I used to.  Plus, I had the most…um….unusual Thanksgiving weekend of my whole life.*  But now it’s on to the Christmas season! Don’t lie – who decorated and/or put up a tree this weekend? {Not me}
If you raised your hand then you might like some of this stuff below ~ courtesy of the always-fabulous Crate & Barrel.  This time of year is typically very slow for weddings but do you know what is happening ALL THE TIME between Thanksgiving and Christmas? ENGAGEMENTS!  Yes, this little stretch is the most popular of the whole year for proposals.** Isn’t that sweet?
You might not be able to buy enough Snowmen plates for all of your wedding guests, or store fifteen cupcake trees in your house until the reception but these Winter and Holiday themed decor goodies are perfect for intimate engagement parties.
~~~~~~~~

SNOWMEN! Who doesn’t love snowmen?! Perfectly wintery and festive, yet not holiday specific.

{ Plates | Mugs | Place Cards }

~~~
Silver and Gold – My favorite color combo for ‘the season’! Very sophisticated, yet neutral.
{ Plates | Flutes | Napkins | Placemats }
~~~~~~

Like the traditional red and green look? I can’t blame you, especially after seeing these plates.

{ Plates | Cupcake Wrappers | Cupcake Tree }

~~~~~~~~
I used to think Crate & Barrel was expensive but the prices on these cuties changed my mind!  Which is most in-line with your holiday decorating scheme? Did you have/are you having an engagement party? Share all!
*My mom had a little brain-bleeding-problem on Thanksgiving and is in the hospital. She’s doing well and we’re hoping for her release soon. Good thoughts are much appreciated. 🙂 My blogging obviously took a backseat to that, and may continue to do so this week. I apologize in advance and am very thankful for your understanding.
**I got engaged the day after Thanksgiving and our engagement party was a few days after Christmas…we’re so typical! Ha.
Fun With….Wrapping Paper
An easy, inexpensive way to add some pretty and cohesive details at your event (wedding or otherwise) is with…wrapping paper! Obviously you want to pick good quality, heavy paper to work with and not the flimsy stuff; craft stores usually have a great supply and especially at this time of year.  I took two complimentary paper designs and did three quick things (hey, it’s Sunday night) but if you use your imagination the sky is the limit!
All you need for these projects are the wrapping paper, scissors, and double-sided tape.  First, I made little cupcake flags (you’ll also need toothpicks for these) ~
I cut off a rectangular swatch of paper and folded it in half.  From the folded side I cut out shapes – triangles, banners, zig-zags, whatever strikes your fancy. Then I laid each shape out flat, applied a piece of tape, set a toothpick in the middle and then folded the shape back over itself.  Ta-da!
Then, obviously, insert into delicious cupcakes (these are spice with cinnamon-vanilla frosting):
NEXT: I decorated the top of my dessert Mason (uh, Kerr) jars:
{These are Pumpkin Trifles – delicious and so simple: spice cake, pumpkin pudding, and Cool Whip}
Again, this is super easy. I took the top of one of the jars and traced as many circles as I had jars (on the BACK of the paper).  I cut them out – it doesn’t have to be perfect – and then used the double-sided tape to attach each paper circle to it’s lid.
For an extra little touch, I cut thin strips from the second roll of paper and wrapped them around the outside of the lid ~
You can see that I also used this second paper (the red checks) to line the top of the pie safe where the desserts are displayed ~
And lastly, if you really like your wrapping paper you can use it as a table runner! I really stress high quality paper if you decide to do this.  In the pictures below the paper is more like a tablecloth – I don’t recommend it. Take the time to measure and trim, and don’t forget to tape it down!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If your wedding is far too formal to have wrapping paper as decor, keep this easy idea in mind for more casual events – the shower, bridal luncheon, etc.  Affordable and pretty is a winner every time. 🙂

Now if you’ll excuse me…these things were easy to do but I’ve still made a total mess of my kitchen! Tip: pick up the scraps of paper as you go!

Down for the Count

{TGIFestive} was all planned out for today and then….. my laptop crashed. Yep, my practically brand new laptop. Nothing but a blank screen and my tears. 😦 I feel so lost! Geek Squad will be on the case, though, and I hope to be fully functioning again by Monday at the latest.

Don’t ask me where and how I’m even posting this, I don’t want to embarrass myself. 🙂 Here’s a small piece of what today was supposed to be:

Remember on Wednesday I showed you the easy DIY yarn poms? (I would love to link you but now WordPress is freaking out on me too)  Here’s something else you can do with them!

I know this is Christmas-y, but you could apply the same idea to wrapping your bridesmaids gifts or even use them to top favor boxes on your reception tables.  This picture is courtesy of Sweet Paul’s holiday magazine.  Again, I can’t link so you’re going to have to Google…

So, to sum up today –
Bad things: ASUS and WordPress
Good things: Yarn poms…and hope

Have a great weekend and send good tech thoughts my way!

{TGIF} Thank Goodness It’s FABULOUS!

What do you think of the new title? I was really over ‘Friday Pretties’; the new site was going to feature the new title but I couldn’t wait! Each Friday will feature a different ‘F’…like next week it might be ‘frugal’ or ‘fashion’ – you get the idea. (Right?) But today….today is fab-u-lous!

~~~~~~~~
Fabulous….things to wear ~
Peacock Feather Sash | BCBGMAXAZRIA Pleated Feather Gown
*I love this dress! It’s long but I would still maybe use it as a reception dress ~ it looks comfy!*
~~~~~~~~

Fabulous…ways with paper ~

First of all I loooove the colors in this wedding! Secondly, look at that cute tutorial for guests! Answer the chart….is it cloudy? Then follow the steps to make a paper hat (pictured!) Is it sunny? Follow the other set of instructions for a fan.  FUN!

These calendars from Posh Paperie are so beautiful.  At a wedding (especially this close to the end of the year) I would lay them out just like in the first picture, and have guests sign on the month of their birthday or wedding anniversary….the ‘guestbook’ you can enjoy all year long! {I saw that idea on Martha Stewart, but with a ‘regular’ calendar.}

~~~~~~~~
Fabulous…Thanksgiving tablescape~
This setup from HGTV is kinda what I’m going for this year…hopefully I’ll be able to show you next week!
~~~~~~~~

So was it fabulous, or only in my own mind? 😉 Have a great weekend, see you on {Cozy Sunday}!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Yes, we ‘gained’ an hour this weekend but it’s Monday and will be dark before I’ve barely seen the sun today…those two negatives deserve a round of ‘A Few of My Favorite Things’ to help perk us up!  Oh, and I have to qualify: these are my favorite things of this moment… it changes all the time!

~~~~~~~
GREY ~ It’s the new black.  Fill your wardrobe with this great neutral.
 I am honestly in love with this shrug by Holly Stalder!
Artichokes ~ Specifically young purple artichokes…in bouquets.
Showcased on Para ti Novia
Beer Crates ~  A cute inexpensive display item, for beer or not!
 OK so they’re not inexpensive if you buy them here… look in your garage instead!
~~~~~~~~

What are your favorite colors, themes or decorative items right now? Oh, and who has a SAD lamp they can send me? 😉

The Light and Dark Side of Fabulous {Fashion}

Welcome to Friday! If you’ve been hanging out with us all week then you know the blog has been featuring two posts per day – one regular and one Halloween-inspired.  What did you think of that format? Was it workin’ for you or a waste of space?  Just trying to gear up and plan for the other holidays right around the corner!

Regardless of your answer, today is just one post.  Everything is rolled up into one – the light and the dark.  Also, you’ll notice it’s not titled “Friday Pretties” as usual.  I’ve decided I don’t really like that moniker and am trying to think of something new for this particular feature once the face-lifted site launches.  Input welcome and appreciated!

Let’s get going, we have a lot of ground to cover…. starting with the Light Side of Fabulous.

~~~~~~~~~~
You knew it would start with dresses right? I’m pretty predictable.  Here are my five favorite dresses EVER! Well… my five favorite dresses this week.
J. Crew Vintage Lace | Vivienne Westwood Gold Label | Alice + Olivia |
J. Crew Cupcake Crepe and Lace | Milly
~~~~~~~~~~

Let’s call this section limbo… a nice, easy, STUNNING transition from the light into the dark.  The following pictures are from Jessica and Vito’s wedding in Philadelphia.  “Fabulous” is an understatement, and it’s a perfect example of how to have an edgy, moody wedding and still be glam. GLAM, I tell you!

Take note of all the details ~ from the graveyard photos, the checkerboard theme, skeleton keys, and the to-die-for (no pun intended) gown.

Photography: Marie Labbancz | Gown: Pronovias | Bridesmaids shoes: L.A.M.B. |
Jewelry: handmade by the bride | Hair and Makeup:  Claudia Seyler| Cemetery:  Laurel Hill Cemetery|
Ceremony + Reception:  College of Physicians

~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the Dark Side… of Fabulous.
My love for anything Alexander McQueen has never been a secret, especially not here.  This is the first collection since his death, designed flawlessy by his former assistant of 14 years – Sarah Burton.
I love this ‘tattered’ dress with the white peeking through – perfect for Halloween.
This last one is my favorite – I could eat, sleep, live in that kimono.  I’d probably have to because I wouldn’t be able to afford rent after I bought it! Eye candy is free, though.
~~~~~~~~~~

One more note on the Dark Side ~ no, I don’t know why that girl looks so angry.  She’s wearing McQueen for goodness sake! Oh well, it adds to the edge. So. There you have it.  Favorites? Hates? And what are you doing for Halloween?

Have a great weekend!

Friday Pretties ~ Dresses, Dresses and More Dresses! Oh, And a Wedding ~

 Can I get a “Woop woop” for this Friday? Although by the time I post this it may be Saturday, at the rate I’m going. Plus, as usual, WordPress is tres uncooperative.  Hopefully the site/blog transfer will be happening in the next couple of weeks and I won’t have to deal with it anymore! That deserves another “woop woop”.

So anyway.  Of course I absolutely adore all the stuff in today’s post but I was feeling a bit uninspired last night – I hope it doesn’t come across that way.  It’s so fashion-y, which is not really the point of this blog. Well, what is the point? – you may ask.  I have no idea, but probably not all fashion all the time and that’s how it’s going lately (because that’s what I love most).  What do you think? Do you like that or should I rein it in some?

Let’s get started, uninspired or not.  First I have a little Bridal Market stuff to share. Yes, I know you’re probably all sick to death of everybody’s BM recaps. Bear with me! These are some of the designers that were not touted all over the blogosphere, plus the dresses are on RACKS. I can not explain to you my love of seeing gorgeous dresses hanging on the rack, ready to walk down the runway. *swoooooon*

Top to Bottom: David Fielden | Jenny Packham | Sarah Seven | Lynn Lugo | Jorge Manuel

~~~~~~~~
Next, a gorgeous, very DIY wedding that took place in MARYLAND, courtesy of SMP! {MD is where I am, in case you didn’t know}  I miss Chicago all.the.time but  beautifulness like this eases the pain. Plus, check out the credits at the bottom – it’s amazing how much stuff was done by the bride and her friends/family. And if you know me, you know I’m dying over her shoes.
Photography: Adam Barnes Fine Art Photography / Ceremony: Running Fox, Chestertown, MD / wedding cake was made by a friend (and bridesmaid) Lauren Petri / All the cakes were made by a family friend, Maureen Czebotar / Tarts: Whole Foods in Annapolis / Flowers: Dawn at Severna Park Florist / Event design: Bride and Janae May (family friend) / Invitations: Bride and Wade Smith (friend) / Shoes: Ann Taylor / Dress: Designed by Bride, made by Suzanne Reams
~~~~~~~~

Aaaaaand…More fashion! Not much to say about these, except please go buy one and then brag to me.
Designed and handcrafted by reddoll.

~~~~~~~~
And finally – these shoes were voted Sexiest of the Year.  Um.  No.  I love Christian, and I don’t know what the other contenders were… but there had to be something way more fierce than this.
~~~~~~~~

What did you love, what did you hate? What are you doing this weekend? 🙂 Oh, and if you haven’t already, please vote in the “WEDDING DRESS BUDGET” poll! ~ Right Here ~

It’s Monday, I’m In Love

You wear white and I’ll wear out the words ‘I love you’… and ‘You’re beautiful”…
                                                                       ~Train, “Marry Me”

Well I’m just full of lyrics on this Monday, aren’t I? OK so the lyrics I’m referencing in the title are really about Friday but it’s so fitting for today!  This weekend I fell in love with WEDDING DRESSES…. all over again.

But first: I just had to tell you the best line of the weekend, which belongs to my husband.  At my nephew’s soccer game I was complaining about the heels of my booties sinking into the ground.  Hubby didn’t skip a beat: “Well you should’ve known better than to wear your Jimmy Blahnik’s out here”.  Did you hear that? Jimmy Blahnik.  When I finally stopped laughing I asked him if he knew what each designer’s real name was.  Again, he replied instantly: “Yep.  Manolo Choo.”  He’s one in a million, that man I married. 🙂

Fashion – especially bridal fashion – is my first love, and that’s why I was glued to the computer every available moment this weekend.  Bridal Market was/is going on in New York and some fabulous people were kind enough to provide a glimpse into the shows via Twitter.  What did we ever do before hashtags?  And in case you missed it I’ve compiled some of my favorite dresses that were tweeted in front of my face.  Thanks again to all who took the time to share the latest greatness with those of us who couldn’t be there!

I would say the top trends coming out of this weekend were both full and trumpet skirts plus lots of texture and sparkle.  Here we go: (Remember most of these are pics from phones, taken by audience members not photographers!)

~~~~~~~~
Whew! I’m going to have to call this my stopping point! SO. MANY. other great dresses and tweets and coverage – please search them out online because the designs are just amazing.  There was very little I disliked or found “blah”.  Keep your fingers crossed I can go next year! (If you’ve known us for a while, you know that we have our own shop in the works!)
Did you follow the tweets and other online resources for Bridal Market this weekend? What/who was your favorite? What do you think of the trends that are prevalent for the upcoming season? I’m loving all the sparkle, fullness, and especially the textures! Oh and COLOR! I didn’t even include much of that – maybe another day…
Dark
The blog will be dark today in honor of a family friend that passed away yesterday from Leukemia.
He was only 35.
May he rest in peace, finally whole again.
May his family find strength, comfort in his courage, and happiness in the memories of his life.
Take a moment (at least) to celebrate all the good in your lives today!
Friday Pretties – Part 1 | Four To-Die-For Wedding Bits | Garland ~ Props ~ Guest Book ~ Pillows ~
Wheeeee! It’s Friday! Not that Friday is the last day of a work week for wedding people or anything, but I threw in “Wheeeee” for you guys. 🙂 Oh – have you seen that GEICO commercial where the little pig, literally, goes “Wheeeeee, wheeeee, wheeeee!” all the way home? Here it is! I love him.  But I digress.
Know what else I love? These four amazing details (coming up in a minute) for a wow, amazing, unique, charming wedding.  While I thoroughly enjoy the creativity, talent, and new ideas that spring forth all the time in this industry, I also HATE that none of this stuff existed when I got married! No fair! (<– I just stomped my foot right there, too, to fully complete the three-year-old-like tantrum).
And by the way, this is the first of two ‘Friday Pretties’ this week! There’s another post coming later with another whole mess of good stuff – inspiration for your wedding, home, and aisle-style.
~~~~~~~~

How adorable is this heart garland made from book pages?!  All items are made from damaged books, turning once-loved words into lovely decor.  You can even request the garland or ornaments be made from love poems…details, details, details!

Can’t quite work it in to your wedding?  String the garland at your bridal shower.

If all else fails just buy the paper heart ornaments and enjoy them around your house!

~~~~~~~~
OK next… a prop for the ever-popular photo booth! I will be completely honest with the whole world right now: I did not at all ever understand those moustaches on a stick! What was up with that?! I mean, it was kinda cute and seemed funny at first but I never could grasp why it became a HUGE TREND! For a while there I couldn’t find a wedding picture without fake moustaches!
Anyway.  I like these props-on-a-stick better.  Same general idea but less…hairy.
These would also be fantastic in engagement pictures! And, unlike many things I post here, they’re cheap. Yay!
~~~~~~~~

Favorite, favorite thing I’ve seen in a long time – a puzzle guestbook! How can you not love this?  Here’s how it works:

Send the artist a high-quality picture (e-pics work nicely).  You choose the puzzle size you want, and any specialty puzzle piece-shapes you would like to have included – such as hearts, figures, names, or dates.  See the little heart and monkey in the picture above?

Put all your puzzle pieces out at the reception to be signed! Lots of room for messages, plus you get two special pens with your order.  After guests sign their piece, they flip it over and start the process of assembling the puzzle. Ta da!

DO YOU LOVE IT?!

~~~~~~~~
Last but not least, gorgeous ring bearer pillows.  Most brides don’t give this detail much thought, but why not add even more gorgeousness to your wedding?
~~~~~~~~

Heart Garland | Word Bubbles | Puzzle Guestbook | Ring Bearer Pillows

Sooooo…. what do you think? Which is your favorite? Don’t be biased by my love for the puzzle guestbook.  Oh and a word of advice – if you decide to buy one of these fabulous ring pillows, choose a ring bearer that doesn’t insist on wiping his nose with his hand.  Just looking out for your best interests… More Pretties comin’ up!

{UPDATE: Part 2 is up! Check it out here. Lots of pretty pink things in honor of October, a ruffle explosion for your house, and wedding dresses with the perfect hint of color}

Dear Niche White: [Guest Post]

{From NW}  Today’s guest blogger is Joanie from Word to the Brides – please read and advise! Help a sister out.   Also: Being in Freeport, Bahamas could not keep me from my Friday Pretties! Check ’em out here. After you advise Joanie.

What to do when you’re in a fight and it’s totally and completely not your fault*

*It’s mostly your fault.

 Today, the fiancé and I are in a fight. I really couldn’t tell you what about other than my battery died and we spent the afternoon driving around in 110 degree heat which, if you do some research, you’ll find is actually the boiling point of logic. And happiness. Add a dash of yet ANOTHER summer cold (me) and a heaping lack of sleep (him) and you’ve got two people ready to snap. Oh yeah, and our destination wedding is less than two months away and I still don’t have décor or A/V equipment. No big deal.

 After six years together our solution when temperaments rise has always been to walk away and come back later before we explode. But even then there’s that painful in-between time when you’re all alone and hoping to God your significant other has cooled off enough to finally see things your way and will think twice about dropping everything to jump your battery and then proceed to go a heart-stopping 50 mph in a 45 with your freshly-hemmed wedding dress in the trunk.

Did I mention he rescued a baby from being run over last week by darting out into rush-hour traffic?

Yeah. I’m an asshole.

So what do you do when you find yourself in the wrong for once in your life?

No, really. I’m asking. Little help here.

Friday Pretties!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

You’ll find all of today’s Pretties in the guest post I did for Claire (@realnutritioncg)! She is kind enough to fill in for me one of the days I’ll be on vacation so I was more than happy to sub for her.  Go check it out!! They’re my favorite Pretties ever, I think.  Here’s a sneak peek:

But it’s more than just dresses. Seriously, go look!

Now.  As some of you may know Monday is my 2nd wedding anniversary. 🙂 Yay! Great! But I need some present help, please.

The modern wedding gift for two years is china….Um, we didn’t even register for any china so we definitely don’t need/want any now.  The traditional gift is cotton…. so roll with that and give me some ideas.

Now for the twist – we celebrate “Alphabet Anniversaries”; each year is themed by the corresponding letter of the alphabet.  For example, last year was “A” – we went to dinner in Annapolis at a restaurant called AquaTerra.  Therefore this year is “B”.  So I need a B/Cotton gift! See? It’s a little difficult.

Or maybe we can just stick with cotton? After all, next Sunday we leave out of Baltimore on a Boat headed for the Beaches of the Bahamas….. overkill on the “B”?! Either way, give me some ideas!!!! Thank you.

Have a fantastic looooong Labor Day Weekend! xoxo

Help

{Personal}

Living in Chicago was the best experience of my life.  I loved every minute of every day I was there – and it was definitely not all sunshine.  The first year, especially, was hard.  I was blessed to be able to work two jobs but there were still times when I ate only Ramen and had to ransack all my coat pockets in hopes of finding enough change to get on the bus.  I also was blessed to have parents who could float me some cash when it was necessary, so I knew that even on my worst day I would not starve or be homeless.

Not everyone has that kind of backup plan or peace of mind.

When I moved back to the East Coast to work in Corporate America, I quicky realized how bad the economy was.  I was laid off THREE times in thirteen months.  We scraped by but not without resorting to selling my beloved David Yurman ring in order to pay some bills.

Stuff happens. Life happens.  Not everyone has a safety net during these times, and no matter how hard they try or work it’s often not enough.  Enter Modest Needs (@modestneeds).  They can help people who help themselves with our help.  See? We’re all helping each other.  I encourage you to familarize yourself with them, whether you’re on the “give” or “take” side of help.

But this post isn’t even to ask you to donate to them, today.  Today we just need you to help them win a $250,000 grant from Pepsi so they can help the newly unemployed in the Gulf.  The money will go towards those who have lost their livelihoods due to the spill, and families who are waiting for long-term aid.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE! Just click here.  You have to sign up, which consists of entering your name, email, and birthday – takes less than a minute if you’re any good at typing.

I want to encourage you by offering the chance of a prize to those who vote, and help spread the word quickly.  Tweet, Facebook, blog, whatever – just get the word out.  Let me know you voted, and show me how you encouraged your friends to do the same, and I’ll enter you for my nifty giveaway. What is it, you ask? I’m not telling. 🙂 You should be voting out of the kindness of your heart.  But it’s good, I promise.
